The writing studio for a story in any genre
Draft your manuscript, build the world behind it, and keep every thread of continuity in one calm workspace. Revision starts to feel like polishing instead of archaeology.
Your writing stays on your machine. The AI never writes your book, never trains on your words, and only ever sees what you choose to send.
The Editor
A manuscript surface that stays out of the way
The editor below is live. Type in it. Proofing notes surface inline as you write, closer to a co-editor reading over your shoulder than a spell-checker.
The Mine
Quilliam
I stepped silently into the mouth of the mine, the gentle whisper of wind disappearing behind me. Instead, the chatter of bats and faint dripping of water echoed against the stone walls.
I hled up my lantern, casting light across them. They were as I remembered, gray and rough from the miner's picks. The wooden beams stabilizing the earth were gray with age.
The clues had led me there. Since the mayor had vanished, the whole town was in a ruckus. Nobody was sure where he possibly could have gone. So it was up to myself, Private Eye Quill, to find out the answers that nobody knew.
The first clue had been the cigar ash on the floor of his study. Mayor Pensworth never smoked, he preferred the chilled taste of liquor and the debt of cards to ease his stress. but never smoking.
A man had been seen by a witness, leaving the mayor's office the day before he vanished—Ol' Man Reed Johnson and his dog Nibbles. Ol' Reed said that the man wore a set of overalls and a hardhat, looking like he'd crawled out of a hole.
And that led me down to the mines…
The Wiki
Your world, cross-linked and never lost
Type a name and it becomes an @mention — a living link you can click. Follow Quilliam's case notes and watch the backlinks panel keep up, tracking every note that points back. It even catches a name that comes up but was never linked. Your world stays connected as it grows.
Though he tried to retire in '47, people in kept committing crimes. How thoughtless of them. So Private Eye Quill had to come out of retirement to keep solving their problems for them, such as the time when he had to hunt down the missing . And for $3.25 an hour, too. Quilliam had made much more money in the service of Alexander the Great in his conquest of Mesopotamia.
Writing
Quilliam enjoys writing, but refuses to write anything outside of his autobiography, name pending. He is happy to help out authors with managing their notes and such, but he refuses to write their book, since it's theirs. In Quilliam's own thought:
If I did write somebody's scene for them, I become the author. And I'm not about to coauthor a book with somebody. I'm happy to help where I can, but if I wrote their book and they claim to be the author it would be like if I commissioned a painting and told my friends I was an artist.
Aliases
Quilliam is known by many names, some more sinister than others. To most he is simply "Quilliam," "Quill" for short. However some of his other names include but certainly are not limited to:
- Private Eye Quilliam (Quill for short)
- Quillbo (When dealing with dangerous jewelry)
- Quillgamesh
- Quillbert
- Quilliam the Handsome
- Convict 2187 (don't ask)
- Johnathan
Hobbies
Quilliam enjoys all hobbies.
Meet Quilliam
An assistant who cites his sources
Pick a question below and watch Quilliam answer straight from your wiki notes and manuscript. Every claim comes with a citation chip pointing back to exactly where he found it. He organizes your world, keeps continuity honest, and tracks down the thread you buried three chapters ago. He never writes your story. As he puts it, taking your byline would be like commissioning a painting and calling himself the artist.

About
Built by Authors for Authors
QuilLab began simply as a wiki web app that I intended as an AI-enhanced tool for me to track my worldbuilding notes, among other things. From the first build, the scope exploded past that. Why not have an outlining tool, a map tool, AI-powered wiki management, custom calendars, goal setting, and more? And, of course, the actual text editor. I imagined, as an author, what kind of app I'd want to have for my writing. Then, I just built that.
I wanted QuilLab to be powerful while also avoiding concerns I and many others have about writing apps, especially when AI is included. Most authors don't want their manuscript stolen or used to train the next AI model. So, I designed QuilLab to be local-first. Your manuscripts and notes aren't stored externally without your consent (or at all right now, I haven't implemented that yet).
When writing, sometimes the thing which stops us from finishing our latest romance novel or spy horror LitRPG is managing notes, outlining, calculating travel times, scrolling a thesaurus, or even just trying to find what you named the protagonist's grandma back in Act 1. QuilLab is meant to use the best of modern technology in order to remove that friction. I built it to enhance my workflow, my writing habits, and ultimately, help me finish a book in a way which promotes verisimilitude, internal consistency, and creativity. And it can do the same for you. Not write your book for you, but give you everything you need to get to that goal of finishing a book.
They say 81% of people want to write a book while only 15% begin writing. Even then, only 3% finish and only 0.6%get published. If you're here, you're probably already in or near the 15%. My goal is to get you into that 3% and prepare you to be the 0.6%. It's not one in a million, it's closer to 1 in 167.
Be that guy, share your story.
